On September 9, 2026, Semrush released a rebuilt version of SEOquake , the free Chrome extension for running quick page-level SEO checks without leaving your browser.
If you already have SEOquake installed, you don't need to reinstall it. The rebuild arrives as a Chrome Web Store update.
I’ve had SEOquake in my browser for most of my career. For a long stretch, I kept it installed mostly out of habit. I’d open it to check a title tag, skip past metrics I no longer relied on, and close it again.
Some metrics had become outdated, while others stopped returning results at all. The search engine index counts returned “N/A.” Google Cache dates remained in the interface even after Google retired cache links in 2024.
The extension still worked well enough, but some of the data it showed was outdated.
But the page-level work it supported was still useful to me. While AI search has changed the questions I ask and added new problems to solve, understanding the page itself remains central to my work. I still open URLs, inspect how a page is built, check whether the SEO fundamentals are in place, and decide what’s worth fixing.
Most of that work happens in a browser tab, one page at a time. And that’s the workflow Semrush focused on in the rebuild.
Here’s what changed, why Semrush rebuilt it, and how I use SEOquake now.
What is SEOquake?
SEOquake is a free browser extension that lets you review page-level SEO without leaving the tab. With one click, you inspect meta tags, headings, content, links, structured data, audit findings, and available Semrush metrics.
The main benefit of the SEOquake extension is being able to analyze a page quickly and in context. When something on a page raises a question, you can investigate it immediately instead of opening another tool, copying the URL, and running a separate report.
And because the core analysis is free, you can use it for quick checks whenever you need it.
SEOquake is one of the longest-running SEO browser extensions still in use. The 2026 rebuild changes a lot about the extension, but it preserves the simple workflow behind it: Open a page, click the extension, and see what’s happening.
The rebuilt extension is free and available through the Chrome Web Store . It will install in other Chromium-based browsers, including Edge, Brave, and Arc, but Chrome is the only officially supported browser in this release.
Why Semrush rebuilt SEOquake
Semrush rebuilt SEOquake because the old version had reached a point where incremental fixes were no longer enough. It had undergone maintenance updates, but we hadn’t rebuilt it from the ground up in years.
